Don't Count Your Chickens...

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.  Remember that age-old passage?  Well it's counter-productive and here's why.  It's no secret that we participate in the creating of our life, the direction it's going, and all of the stuff that's in it.  We participate in this creation process with positive thinking and enthusiasm as well as self-talk, visualization, and daydreaming.

Did you ever find yourself day-dreaming in school?  Do you find yourself daydreaming while watching television or listening to music?  Daydreaming is a very powerful creation tool because you are relaxed and seeing/making/creating what you want to happen.  In other words, you are counting your chickens then putting them where you want them to be.

A better example is this: you want to sell your antique hutch.  You daydream, counting the money being placed into your hands by the buyer and notice how good it feels.  In your daydream you see yourself depositing the money into your checking account and notice how wonderful it feels to toy with the many ways you can use that money:  pay back a loan, put half of it into your savings account or put it all in the bank.  Daydreaming = creating.

Another way we participate in the process of creating our life is the words we use.  You've seen this countless times: your co- worker tells you as she fills her coffee cup, it's gonna be a bad day. Before you know it, she breaks a heel off her shoe, gets a run in her nylons, spills coffee all over her desk, can't find the report she needs, and on and on.  Sure enough, it is a bad day for her.  Why? Because she said it was going to be bad.

Even jokingly saying, "Yeah, I'll probably catch the flu bug that's going around," will put a catcher's mitt on your hand!  So pay attention to what you say: the more positive the better.  And go ahead and count your chickens before they hatch because you are an active participant in your life and in the direction it's going!
