Halloween is truly one of my favorite holidays. Why? Because it's magical, mysterious, fun, and because it's a no-stress holiday! It's magical and mysterious because the leaves have magically turned from emerald green to the colors of gold, red, orange, and rust, the sky is a richer shade of blue, and the clouds are full bodied, pure white, and well-defined because of the snow-making magic taking place inside of them. Halloween is a fun time because the leaves rustle and crackle from an invisible gust of wind, the corn stalks bow and curtsey to unseen partners, and if ever our imaginations run wild, it's now! We see red eyes starring back at us from tree trunks, something breaks twigs as it sneaks up ever closer behind us, gardening tools seem to transform into alien creatures in the moonlight, and we're certain that the helpful scarecrow in the summer garden is really, and suddenly, a two-headed monster. And there's no-stress!!! We adults allow ourselves the fun of letting ourselves be frightened by that red- eyed thing in the tree trunk and the two-headed monster in the garden. We eat popcorn balls, candied apples, and corn-shaped candy while we give out tootsie rolls, pennies, and mini-candy bars. And we even spend some time playing a harmless prank or two. So get in the spirit, pardon the pun, and hang a sheet in one of your trees, throw a few bails of straw and dried corn stalks in the yard then stuff a pair of jeans with newspaper and place the jeans under the lawnmower. Two years ago, I made the headless horseman from dark clothing and bails of straw. I had a ton of fun creating it and my neighbors loved it. One last thing.
