Moon Power

The moon has a subtle yet powerful influence on each of us.  It affects our moods and sways our temperament.  For example, we will be happy for a few days when the moon is in the sign of Sagittarius.  We'll be energetic when it is in Aries and extremely creative when it is in Leo.

On other days, we might find ourselves being clumsy or short tempered with the moon in Aries or fatigued during the Piscean moon.

The moon is our emotional self or the way we cry, lots of tears or just a few, and the way we anger, slow boiling or a volcano.

The moon rules the ebbs and tides of the ocean, when some animals eat, and how things grow. Some farmers and gardeners plant their crops when the moon is new, full, and also in a specific zodiacal sign depending upon the results they want.  For example, up-top veggies should be started or planted during a full moon cycle and root vegetables should be started or planted during the new moon cycle.  For faster development seeds are planted under the Aries sign and for a later harvest, seeds are planted under an Earth sign.

Centuries ago, a full moon was blamed for people acting crazed or going mad.  And when the moon is full, we are more sensitive or feel our raw nerves and our emotions seem to be full blown or we cry at the drop of a hat.

In order to watch the moon's movements through the twelve signs, you will need to purchase either an astrological calendar or an ephemeris, a book which lists the placement of the moon, sun, and all the planets on any given day.

The full moon was in the sign of Scorpio on April 28, 2010.  This was a fantastic day to plant all the up-top veggies in your garden but in particular the water veggies or lettuce, spinach, and watercress.  And the new moon was in Taurus on May 13, 2010.  This was a good day to plant the root veggies or beets, carrots, and potatoes, reorganize anything or just lay back and relax.

For the successful fruition of any project, you will need to keep in mind the ingredient or the basic element of the project you want to undertake.  For example, lettuce and spinach take more water to grow than roses do.  Plant these two vegetables when the moon is in one of the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

Rearranging furniture takes energy and stamina so move the furniture when the moon is in one of the fire signs, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, but arrange the room in your mind or on paper when the moon is in one of the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.

The fire signs, Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, are courageous, creative, energetic, enthusiastic, and project starters.  Start a new exercise program when the moon is in one of the fire signs and you will feel energetic during and after each session.  Fire energy is also a great time to get something over with because you are working with quick energy.

Earth signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, follow through on projects, are organized, practical, steadfast, and thorough.  When the moon is in one of the earth signs, it's a great time to rework the household budget or prepare your Income Tax Returns.  It is also a good time to repot plants and start a flower or vegetable garden.  It's also a great time to put up the outside Christmas lights because you need patience to untangle the cords and with your thinking in an organized sign a pleasing holiday design is easy to create.

When the moon is in one of the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, daydreaming is easy and as we know, many things are created in daydreams.  The water element is artistic, empathetic, intuitive, nurturing, and sensitive.  It is a great time to sleep in, go fishing, paint or write.  It is also a good time to start a meditation routine.

And the air signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, are fluent with ideas and words, are objective, and are sociable.  This is a great time to catch up on correspondence, host a party or enjoy a lengthy visit with someone.  It's also a good time to politely discuss a difference of opinion.

Use the moon's energy to your advantage to finish up projects, plan and plant your garden to reap a large harvest, enhance the sale of your property, purchase a vehicle or effectively get your idea across to someone else.
